STRENGTHEN:

The strength movement of the month is a Kettlebell Deadlift. Deadlifts are great for targeting the back of your legs and glutes. They also help you to improve your hip mobility. I like to teach my clients deadlifts using a Kettlebell first, because the weight is centered which makes it a little easier to get the movement. If you are in the Malibu area this month I would highly recommend going on a hike through Escondido Canyon & Falls. It’s a very mild hike that takes about 1 hour round trip. Since we’ve been getting a decent amount of rain in Southern California this year, there is actually a pretty nice waterfall at the end of the hike. In the past, the waterfall has been non existent due to the drought in California. In addition to the waterfall, there are some pretty flowers and trees growing back. The wild fires a few months back destroyed much of the wildlife on the the path, so it’s nice to see plants growing back and animals scampering about. It’s a great activity to participate in if you’re in the area.

EAT:

The month if you’re looking for a place with a great ambiance and good brunch food, then I would recommend Élephante in Santa Monica. It has a safari theme and an open concept kitchen and bar. I always enjoy restaurants where I can watch the chef prepare my food. The bar provides an excellent view of the dining room and of Santa Monica. Élephante has a great collection of craft cocktails and range of traditional and healthy Brunch options. I would recommend making a reservation before going as it can get pretty crowded on a sunny day.
