One of the hardest things to do over the Holidays is to stay on track with your healthy eating habits. Between hectic work schedules, travel, guests, and holiday parties, it’s easy to forget to grocery shop and meal prep. My suggestion is to order your groceries online.
Ordering online helps you to plan your meals and snacks ahead of time. That way you are more prepared for the busy week ahead. I like to look at my calendar and determine what days I plan to eat out due to holiday activities. From there, I determine how many meals I’ll need to prepare for the week. I also decide if I should prepare warm meals or cold meals. Knowing whether or not you’ll have access to a microwave will influence your decision on whether a warm or cold meal is needed.
Another benefit of ordering your groceries online, is that you won’t be tempted to purchase all of the fun holiday treats that are front and center at the grocery store. I know I’m not the only one who feels tempted to purchase the gingerbread cookies, eggnog, mint m&m’s, and pies that are staring at me in the face saying “eat me!” Avoiding them by not going to the grocery store will help you save calories and money over the holidays.
My favorite online store is Milkandeggs.com. It’s an online farmers market that is locally sourced and available in Los Angeles. For those of you who live in places where grocery delivery services are unavailable, then I suggest creating a grocery list before going to the store. Build your list at least one day before shopping and commit to only purchasing those items on your list. Shop the outer aisles as much as possible. Those aisles tend to have the fresh and healthier items. Items from the center aisles tend to be packed with preservatives and added sugars.
